Hand-Painted Mexican Huichol Jaguar

Hand-Painted Mexican Huichol Jaguar

SKU: AzulMexicanoJaguar

These stunning clay jaguars are 100% handcrafted and hand painted by independent huichol or Wixárika artisans and families from Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango, México.

In the Huichol culture, jaguars  are the messengers of Tatewari, whom is the god of fire and the Huichol calls jaguars Mayetse, who has infinite power in devouring the failing people’s spirits.

Traditional methods for producing hand painted clay figures have been in use since the 1630s. The unifying factor of the work is the colorful decoration using symbols and designs which date back centuries.

Each piece is beautifully painted with a premium matte finish in the style and tradition of the families, technique that has passed from generation to generation.

Perfect as an accent decor element that fits every room style. Add a nice and original touch of color and culture to your space, while supporting local independent huichol artisan families who dedicate their lives to these beautiful crafts.
